Surat Airport

When asked about  Surat Airport, Surati’s would  joke and would  say we don’t need airport because our flyovers are wide enough to land aero planes on our flyover. They would say this because they where waiting Surat Airport for many years and there was no hope in near future to get the airport. But 6th May of 2007, was a memorable day for Surati’s  because it was the day when they got their airport functional. Earlier if  people of Surat would need to go to Mumbai or Delhi, they would have to go by train. But once Surat airport became functional they can save time and meet their business counterparts at that place saving time. Though currently there are no facilities of transport for passengers to the hotels but hope that it will start soon.
 
Surat Airport Inauguration:

 

The then Union  Finance minister,  Jaswant Singh laid foundation of   Surat Airport . And real functioning started  6th May of 2007.  The main aim of  the airport is to support this  business oriented city which  is know all over the world for its Diamonds and Textile business.

Surat Airport

is situated near Magdalla in the Surat-Dumas Road and about 4 kilometers away from Parle point. The total area occupied by the airport of Surat is about 312 hectare. The runaway of this airport stretches for 14000 meter. The flight operating from airport of Surat is Indian Airlines. This airline company operated the first flight to the airport of Surat. The average expense of air ticket ranges from Rs 2,995 to Rs 15,000 if one has to travel to Delhi from Surat. At one point of time, flights were operated by Gujarat Airways and Vayudoot.

 

But Surat airport needs a lot for up gradation.
